Advancing Applied Science

The increasing popularity of GCSE Additional Applied Science and GCSE Applied Science (Double Award) means more and more schools and colleges are offering GCE Applied Science - student numbers taking AS/A2 applied science are set to rise significantly.

Feedback suggests that schools and colleges are introducing these courses with very little support in the way of teaching and learning materials or training. Teachers have said they want help.

The Nuffield Curriculum Centre and 4science are working with three Science Learning Centres to create support networks of GCE Applied Science teachers.

The aims are to:

•   bring together teachers in schools and colleges for mutual support
•   help teachers plan and deliver courses based on AQA or OCR specifications
•   make 4science materials available with a view to improving them
•   work with teachers to develop A2 support materials
•   explore advanced applied science qualifications with a view to improving them.
