consultancy

4science offers a full consultancy service in all aspects of science education for 6–19 year olds. We engage in research, project management and curriculum development, and provide guidance and advice to meet our clients' needs. Building and maintaining close relationships is at the heart
of how 4science works.

Examples of consultancy include:

Diploma in Science. Ken Gadd, Managing Director of 4science, is currently Science Advisor to the Chair of the Science Diploma Development Partnership and a member of the SDDP Project Team.

Colour and Chemistry (Sherborne House Arts Centre). 4science ran the introductory symposium and continue to provide scientific advice.

Standards Unit science lead consultant, assembling material for 'Success for All: Improving teaching and learning in post-16 science'.

QCA Diploma programme. 4science provided guidance for QCA to issue to awarding bodies and teachers.

Nearly all of our work involves consultation at some stage. When creating resources, for example, we meet with the client to discuss their ideas and provide advice about content and format – often a free or subsidised product for schools and colleges. Examples can be seen on the products page.

All 4science work aims to:

  • promote active learning
  • stimulate interest, curiosity and thinking skills
  • be accessible to students of differing backgrounds, experiences and abilities
  • promote the professional skills used by scientists, technologists and engineers
  • consistently engage students in practical and investigative activities
  • encourage student confidence in their own progress.

Our portfolio promotes active and effective learning, basing approaches on preferred teaching practice such as assessment for learning. Resources champion approaches that foster learning and give young people the skills to enter the full array of scientific endeavour. They cover both core learning and enhancement.

Where possible, we use topics at the frontiers of science as contexts for meeting curriculum and assessment requirements given in awarding body specifications. Nanotechnology and smart materials are two examples.
