Scientists in Sport

Scientists in Sport is a GlaxoSmithKline outreach programme, inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. 4science is helping create and run a series of university open days for 11-14 year olds, and a website with free teaching resources.

The programme comprises of a series of open days at universities for 11-14 year old school children to learn about the various uses of science in sport. The Scientists in Sport pilot event took place at King's College, London in July 2010. Following its success, the outreach programme is being rolled out across the country.

Aims of the events:

To inspire students to take their science studies further and consider a career in sport science.
-- Students will experience a day at a University and learn about cutting edge sports science and the science of anti-doping.
-- Teachers can access valuable teaching resources, visit research laboratories, and gain inspiration and ideas for the classroom.
-- Students can share their experiences online with photos and video, and by submitting articles for our Scientists in Sport magazines.

And there are prizes to be won! All students that get published in our magazine will win a Scientists in Sport backpack - and a selection of our favourite articles will win a pocket camcorder.
