Engineering Everywhere

14-16 science

Engineering Everywhere makes engineering and engineers a transparent feature in the examined curriculum of young people.

It is a free multi-media resource. The DVD-ROM features eight engineering themes, each with videos, electronic and paper-based link activities, practical activities and teaching notes. The practical activities are directly linked to the 14-16 science curriculum.

There is also a PowerPoint presentation demonstrating the disc’s navigation, a useful tool for CPD. The project was funded by the EPSRC and completed in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University, Glasgow University and Graphic Science, with support from the British Science Association.

Why Engineering Everywhere?

Despite a cascade of initiatives from many sources, engineering remains a Cinderella subject at school level. Perceptions of engineers as semi-skilled workers with oily rags are still widespread and are a major influence in the poor uptake of engineering courses by school leavers. This has led to a dearth of well-qualified engineers entering the research community and the labour market in the UK. This DVD-ROM addresses these issues.
